Rüti, Glarus

Ruti (GL ) is a village in the municipality of Glarus Süd policy in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland.

Geography

Ruti is a village street in the Glarus Grosstal. It lies on the right bank of the Linth on Durnagel. From the municipality surface 4.9% are colonized, 23.9 % are used for agriculture, 57.3 % is forested and 13.9 % are non-productive.

Population

The textile mills moved in 1900 to many guest workers who had settled in the community. Ruti has about 35 percent, the highest percentage of foreigners in the canton of Glarus. 1980 were employed in the domestic industry, 80 percent of the workforce.

Economy

Agriculture was to the industrialization main source of income. The utilization of water power of Linth and Marglenbach allowed in 1846 to operate a cotton mill and a wool mill in 1850, both of which were taken over by the Schoeller'sche Kammgarnspinnerei by Rudolf Wilhelm Schoeller, but had to close in 2002.

Traffic

The railroad Glarus Linthal has a stop in Ruti. In 1879, Ruti received a railroad connection to the railway line Weesen - Linthal. The main street for private transport is outside the village core.

History

The village was first mentioned around the year 1340. In 1388, the oldest Linthbrücke the country Glarus in Ruti is occupied. After the separation of the Church in Glarus residents of Ruti are kirchgenössig since 1300 after Betschwanden. In 1528, the population of the Reformation joined. In the playground wall remains of a medieval tower house have been preserved. Built in the 16th century, played a significant role in the community 's history. With a fundraising campaign, initiated by Heiri Hösli from Ennet mountains and supported by Ruessdiliverein, the Swiss sponsorship for mountain communities and the authorities, the Alp Bodmen in 2004 and Alp front Durnachtal awaits could be saved from the sell-out and transferred to a foundation in 2006.

Ruti was merged as part of the Glarus municipality reform on 1 January 2011 with the communities Betschwanden, Braunwald, Elm, Engi, Haslen, Linthal, Luchsingen, Matt, Mitlödi, Schwanden ( GL), Schwändi, and Sool to the new municipality of Glarus Süd.

The municipality of Buchs ZH has taken a sponsorship for Ruti.
