Saint- Julien- lès -Montbéliard is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Saint- Julien- lès -Montbéliard is located at 370 m, about 7 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located on the eastern edge of a plateau, which is nestled in the rolling landscape between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the northwest, south of the valley of Rupt.

The area of ​​3.81 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside north of Doubstals. The northern boundary runs along the Rupt, which is dammed here to Étangs des Princes (fish pond ). From Bach, the municipality's area extends southward over the plateau of Saint- Julien- lès -Montbéliard to the adjacent, densely wooded slopes of Grand Bois, at 446 meters the highest point of the municipality is reached. With a narrow strip of communal land extends westward to the plateau of Arcey, which is on average 360 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Julien- lès -Montbéliard are Échenans and Raynans in the north, Issans in the east, manure, and Présentevillers Sainte -Marie in the south and Arcey in the West.

History

Saint -Julien is first mentioned in 1150 under the name Sanctus Julianus. Over time, the spelling on Sainct Gellin ( 1378 ), Sainct Gelin ( 1554 ), Sainct Gelien ( 1566) transformed to Sainct Julien ( 1649). Since the Middle Ages belonged to Saint- Julien to the territory of the Counts of Montbéliard. This led in 1540 the Reformation. During the Burgundian Wars ( 1474 ) and the Thirty Years' War, the village was affected. With the annexation of the county of Montbéliard reached Saint -Julien 1793 final in French hands. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Saint -Julien was officially renamed in 1962 in Saint -Julien- lès -Montbéliard. Today the village is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée du Rupt.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Julien stands outside the village on the edge of the forest of the Grand Bois. It was built in 1744 and 1848 and completely restored in 1902. Additional area attractions include the old parsonage of the village (1675 built ), another house from 1624, the Lavoir ( wash house ) from the 18th century and various farmhouses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 173 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint- Julien- lès -Montbéliard is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​97-116 persons, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1960s. Since then, the population has doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint- Julien- lès -Montbéliard was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and the fish embossed village.
