Saint-Martin-Bellevue

Saint -Martin -Bellevue is a town in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint -Martin- Bellevue is located at 720 m above sea level. M., about seven kilometers north of the town of Annecy (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on a hill north of the basin of Annecy in the Alpine foothills, between the valleys of the west and Viéran Filière in the east, in Genevois.

The area of ​​9.33 square kilometers municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The eastern boundary runs along the Filière, a right tributary of the Fier. History

The municipality of Saint -Martin -Bellevue was already inhabited during the Roman period, because here ( the Roman Annecy ) ran past the Strait of Boutae after Genava (Geneva). First mentioned is the place in 867, when King Lothar of Lorraine gave the territory to his wife Theutberga. In the Middle Ages it was known as Mont -Saint- Martin, later Saint -Martin -en- Genevois. Only in 1923 the present name of Saint -Martin -Bellevue was introduced.

Attractions

The village church was given its present form in the 18th century; it has a baroque altar. In the old town, many houses in the typical Savoyard style have been preserved.

Population

With 2466 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint -Martin -Bellevue is one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s was due to its pleasant residential area and close to Annecy recorded a marked increase in population. Over the past four decades, the population has quadrupled.
