Saint-Thiébaud

Saint- Thiébaud is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Saint- Thiébaud is located at 550 m above sea level. M., north of Salins- les -Bains, 31 km east-southeast of the city of Dole (air line). The farming village extends in the western Jura, a scenic location on a terrace on the western slopes of Mont Poupet, high above the valley of the Furieuse.

The area of ​​7.94 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the Mont Poupet, on the 850 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Saint- Thiébaud is achieved. With the exception of the peak area of ​​the Mont Poupet is heavily forested and has cliffs on its slopes in various places. The eastern boundary runs in the valley of the Lison from south tapered Todeur. History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of Saint- Thiébaud been inhabited since prehistoric times and during the Gallo- Roman period. On the Mont Poupet was in the 13th century, a medieval castle, which belonged to the lords of Montmahoux. Castle and the adjacent sustained in the Age settlement were Poupet 1479 by troops of King Louis XI. destroyed. The town of Saint- Thiébaud is documented only in the 15th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. In 1740 it was elevated to a Marquisat.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Thiébaud dates from the 16th century. On the Mont Poupet of which offers a beautiful view of the surroundings, the ruins of the medieval castle are visible.

Population

With 69 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) Saint- Thiébaud one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906 148 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint- Thiébaud was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector.
