Sălciua

Salciua is a town in Alba county in Transylvania, Romania. Parish seat is Salciua de Jos (deprecated Sălciva -de- jos; Sundorf German, Hungarian Alsószolcsva ).

Geographical location

The community Salciua is located on the National Road ( Drum National) DN 75, on the left side of the river Aries, southeast of Muntele Mare Mountains and northwest of the Trascău Mountains ( Munţii Trascăului ) in Pimp country. The nearest town Baia de Aries ( Offenburg ) is located about 15 kilometers to the west; the county capital Alba Iulia ( Charles Castle ), about 120 km (38 km distance) away to the southeast.

The leading through the town of Turda Small train - Abrud ( 93 km ) was opened in 1912 and decommissioned in 1998.

History

The place Salciua, one of the oldest Romanian Nationals villages was 1379 or 1365 mentioned ( according to different data) for the first time under the name Zolchwa documented. He belonged to the domain iron castle in County Torda - Aranyos.

On the territory of the municipality seat Salciua de Jos are, according to reports by G. Téglás from 1887 and M. Roska been 1941/1942 archaeological finds of the Early Bronze Age made ​​. On the territory of eingemeindeten village Salciua de Sus (1876 ) were operated in Roman times the river Aries sluice boxes by JM Ackner (1856 ) and C. Gooss.

The main occupation of the population are forestry, wood processing, animal husbandry and Skinning.

Population

The population remained relatively stable since the first official survey in 1850. 1850 lived on the territory of the present municipality of 2,567 inhabitants; 2,512 of these were Romanians and 55 Roma. 1890, with 2530 having the largest population - and at the same time the Germans ( 14) - registered. The highest number of Romanians ( 2,487 ) in 1956, the Hungarians (36 ), 1900, and the Roma ( 66) 1930 determined. In addition, in 1910 two residents called the Slovaks, 1966 and 1977, two of the Ukrainians. 2002 there were still 1,785 people in the municipality ( 1,780 Romanians, three Hungarians and two Roma).

Attractions

  • The wooden church Sfânta Treime şi Sfântul Prooroc Ilie in the village of Valea Larga eingemeindeten, built in 1782, is a listed building.
