Sandra Kalniete
Kalniete [ Kalniete ] ( born December 22, 1952 in Togur, Tomsk Oblast, Soviet Union) is a Latvian politician. She was from 2002 to 2004 and Secretary of State between May 1 2004 and November 22, 2004 Commissioner.
Life
Kalniete was born in the Russian Oblast Tomsk, where her parents had been deported as children or adolescents in 1941 and in 1949 by the Soviet government from the Soviet occupied Latvia. She studied art from 1977 to 1981 at the Latvian Academy of Art and worked as an art historian. In this profession, she brought, among others, a catalog of the tapestry of Rūdolfs Heimrāts (1929-1992) out (1987 ) and a book on Latvian Textile Art (1989).
Your involvement in the Latvian independence movement led in 1988 to the policy. She was deputy chairman of the Latvian Popular Front, the largest of the pro-independence political organizations Sowjetlettlands.
After the restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia, she worked at the State Department and was her country's ambassador to the United Nations ( 1993-1997 ), in France (1997 to 2000) and UNESCO (2000 to 2002).
