Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast
Sassowo (Russian Сасово ) is a town in Ryazan Oblast (Russia) with 28 118 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located on the southeastern edge of the Meschtschoraniederung about 180 km southeast of Ryazan Oblasthauptstadt at the Zna, a left tributary of Moksha in the river system of the Volga.
Sassowo is the Oblast administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
The village Sassowo was first mentioned in documents in 1642.
In the 18th century the rope production was a major industry (see coat of arms ); until the mid- 19th century, the village became an important regional trading center.
After the opening of the railway company in 1893 for railway operations were settled.
1926 was the place the municipal law.

The city has a museum of local history.
18 km north, in the village of Kargaschino Rajons Sassowo is the ensemble of the former country seat of the German - Baltic Barons of the Launitz from the 19th century.
Economy and infrastructure
In Sassowo there are plants of machinery and equipment construction, for agricultural machinery and textile and food industry.
The town lies on the railway line Moscow - Ryazan - Rusajewka - Sysran ( kilometer 381 ).
By Sassowo the regional road R124 leads Shatsk - Kasimov.
