Novomichurinsk

Nowomitschurinsk (Russian Новомичуринск ) is a town in Ryazan Oblast (Russia) with 19 309 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the north of the Oka -Don plain about 85 km south of the Oblasthauptstadt Ryazan on the right bank of the pent-up here to a dam Pronja, a right tributary of the opening into the Volga Oka.

History

Nowomitschurinsk was created in 1968 as a workers' settlement in connection with the establishment of the Ryazan thermal power station and received city rights in 1981.

Was named the place after the botanist Ivan Mitschurin (1885-1935), who was on the Middle former country seat Werschina, today village Mitschurowka, born and his plant breeding activity began. The prefix - Novo (Russian for re - ) used to distinguish from the south in the Tambov Oblast located, since 1932, also named after Mitschurin city Michurinsk ( previously Koslow ).

Economy and infrastructure

In Nowomitschurinsk are the Ryazan thermal power station ( GRES Rjasanskaja ) with an installed capacity of 2650 MW and the 1990 errichtere natural gas power plant GRES -24 with a capacity of 310 megawatts. Both plants belong to the OGK -6, one from 1 June 2008 during the reorganization of the energy sector of Russia from the previous holding company Unified Energy System independent group.

There are also companies in the light and food industries and the construction industry.

The town lies on the railway line Birkino - Woslebowo ( industrial railway, only freight). In Birkino, 20 kilometers to the east, also the nearest passenger station is located on the route Moscow - Ryazan - Ryazhsk - Voronezh ( kilometer 277 ).
