Korablino, Korablinsky District, Ryazan Oblast

Korablino (Russian Кораблино ) is a town in Ryazan Oblast (Russia) with 12,658 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the north of the Oka -Don plain about 90 km south of Oblasthauptstadt Ryazan, near the river Pronja, a right tributary of the opening into the Volga Oka.

Korablino is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

The place was first mentioned in 1676 as a village in documents. According to one version of the place name was derived from the Russian word for korabl ship because the wood of the surrounding oak forests to have been used for the construction of ships on the Don. According to other data of the place was called initially Korabjino after its owners, the boyar Korobjin, while the present form came into use until the end of the 18th century.

After the opening of the former Ryazan Koslower railway in 1866 the town developed into an important grain storage and trading center of the government.

In the 1950s, a factory for silk fabrics emerged. In addition, several coal pits, were because the place is located on the eastern edge of the Moscow lignite basin, drilled, but they were closed due to lack of profitability soon.

In 1965 the city charter was granted.

Culture and sights

In Korablino the Intercession Intercession Church stands ( Покровская церковь / Pokrowskaja Tserkov ) from the 19th century. The city has a museum of local history.

In the Rajon listed, created in the mid-19th century Dendrological Park Jerlinski is with over 150 tree and shrub species.

Economy and infrastructure

In Korablino there is a factory for silk fabrics ( cortex) as well as companies in the construction industry and the food industry.

The city is located on the 1871 consistently opened railway line Moscow - Ryazan - Voronezh and Tambov - Saratov ( kilometer 287 ).

By Korablino leads the regional road R127, which connects the several kilometers east extending R126 Ryazan Dankow - Yefremov with the M6 highway Moscow - Tambov -Volgograd -Astrakhan in Skopin ( almost 40 kilometers west ).
