Schwepnitz
Schwepnitz ( Upper Sorbian Sepicy ) is a municipality in the Western Lusatia region of Saxony in the north, about 12 kilometers northwest of the city Kamenz and about 35 kilometers north-east of Dresden. It is located between Bern and Koenigsbrueck village. West of Schwepnitz is the Konigsbriicker heath with the former military training area Koenigsbrueck.

History
Already around 100 BC can be a Germanic settlement of the area to Schwepnitz prove. The place name derives from the altsorbischen Svepeťnica (of altsorbisch: svepet " hive " ) for a stream that flows through a forest with beehives from and probably dates from the second settlement period by the Slavs. However, the first written evidence dates only from 1343rd
The deposited Heath village which belonged first to rule Kamenz and since the mid-16th century to the caste domination Koenigsbrueck, developed since the establishment of a glassworks by the Berndorfer glassmaking family Klahn in 1865 to an industrial community. The monastery was built in 1932 hut a second glass factory. During World War II Schwepnitz suffered extensive damage. The glass factories were expropriated in the GDR and merged in 1972 in the VEB glass factory Schwepnitz.
Culture and sights

Traffic
Schwepnitz located on the national highway 97 and about 20 km from the motorway junctions of the A13 ( Ruhland, Thien village) and the A4 ( Ottendorf- Okrilla ) away. By public transport Dresden, Hoyerswerda and Kamenz are easy to reach.
Personalities
- Johann Gottlieb von Wolff (1756-1817), Elector of Saxony Lieutenant and Gentleman, district and landowners in Livonia. Purchased in 1802 the manor Grüngräbchen, who built a mansion and lived there permanently in 1804.
- Erich rod (1888-1972), Protestant theologian, Reichswart the Protestant young men's societies and one of the founders of the telephone counseling service in Germany
