Seiwa Genji

The Seiwa Genji (Japanese清和 源氏) were the most successful and most powerful branch of the many branches of the family of the Minamoto clan. Many of the most famous Minamoto warriors, so Minamoto no Yoritomo, the founder of the Kamakura shogunate, were descended from this line. The family is named after Emperor Seiwa, the grandfather of Minamoto no Tsunemoto, the patriarch of the Seiwa Genji.
