Selkirk is a small town in the south of the Canadian prairie province of Manitoba.

The city is located about 34 km north of the provincial capital of Winnipeg, is crossed by the Red River and is located near the Lake Winnipeg, one of the largest lakes in North America.

The city was named in honor of Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk, who with the Red River colony, initiated in 1812 a settlement project in today's Manitoba.

Selkirk was in April 2007 - in addition to the capital Winnipeg - the venue for three games of the IIHF World Women's Championship.
