Career

Sergei Shirokov began his career as a hockey player in the youth of HK CSKA Moscow, for its second team, he was active from 2001 to 2004 in the third-class Perwaja league. Then the attacker was in the 2004/05 season his debut for the first team of CSKA in the Super League, in which he remained point and impunity in eight games in his rookie year. In the following four seasons was the right shooter regular for CSKA and scored in the 2008/ 09 season in the newly formed Kontinental Hockey League in a total of 64 games 45 scorer points, including 18 goals. During this period, the Russian was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2006 in the sixth round as a total 163 players from the Vancouver Canucks, the beorderten him for the season 2009/10 to North America.

In the following two seasons, the Russian was mainly in the farm team for the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League on the ice and scored in 152 games of the regular season 103 points, and a further twelve meters in 20 playoff games. With the Manitoba Moose Shirokov established in January 2011, a franchise record when he recorded at least one point in a row in twelve encounters. On 1 July 2011, the Russian was again obliged by HK CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League, where he was awarded a contract for three seasons. On 9 July 2011, the Vancouver Canucks gave his rights from in exchange for the rights to Mike Duco to the Florida Panthers.

In November 2013 Shirokov was delivered together with Maxim Goncharov in exchange for Alexander Frolov and Stanislaw Jegorschew HK Avangard Omsk in the.

Internationally

For Russia Shirokov took part in the U18 World Youth Championship in 2004 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2005 and 2006 in part.
