Sheenjek River in the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge

It rises in the Romanzof Mountains, a mountain range in the Brooks Range, flows south and empties northeast of Fort Yukon in the Porcupine River.

The headwaters and upper reaches of the Sheenjek lie in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the mouth of the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge.

The 260 km long part of the Sheenjek Rivers in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1980 reported by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act as a National Wild and Scenic River.
