Showtime, Storytime

Occupation

Showtime, Story Time is a live album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was released on November 29, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records and is the first volume publication with the singer Floor Jansen.

Formation

The DVD contains the band's performance at the Wacken Open Air on August 3, 2013, and the nearly two-hour documentary Please Learn the setlist in 48 hours. The DVD also contains two other live videos. A version of the song I Want My Tears Back recorded in Helsinki and the song Ghost Love Score recorded in Buenos Aires. The DVD is rounded off by a 16- minute video of a table hockey tournament, which have played on the tour the musicians. Directed by Ville Lipiäinen.

Originally, the band wanted to release only one tour documentary. The record company Nuclear Blast proposed to extend the documentation with a concert recording. First, keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen struggled against this proposal because he would rather released a live recording of a special kind with orchestra. Since this plan was not implemented in time finally agreed to the musicians. Since the DVD contains both a concert and a documentation of the Title Showtime, Storytime was chosen.

The title of the document Please Learn the setlist in 48 Hours refers to the circumstances, as the singer Floor Jansen joined the band. During the North American tour of the band in October 2012, the musician parted from their former singer Anette Olzon. Then Holopainen Floor Jansen contacted and asked her to travel to Seattle, where the next concert was to take place. 48 hours after this call Nightwish stood first with Jansen as a singer on the stage.

The separation of Olzon had great influence on the final product. Olzon demanded of the band and the director to be removed from all already cut passages in the documentation and not even mentioned by name. According to Ville Lipiäinen the work of five weeks had to be thrown in the trash. For the new cut another two weeks of work were due. Tuomas Holopainen said in an interview that he can not understand the motives of Olzon and their manager, as both have never seen the material. Holopainen wanted to discard the entire project then, but was persuaded by the director.
