Slovenian PrvaLiga

The Slovenska Nogometna League, also called PrvaLiga Telekom Slovenije because of a sponsorship contract, is the highest Slovenian league in football.

History

From 1920 to 1991, the Slovenian League was the regional base in the Yugoslav league system. Since the country's independence from Yugoslavia, the Slovenian national champion will be played in the Slovenska Nogometna league.

After the league changed its name for years because of the main sponsor under the name League Si.mobil Vodafone, it has been called since the 2006/07 season PrvaLiga Telekom Slovenije, as the sponsor changed.

The mode has changed several times within the first few years. In the first season in 1991/92 was attended by 21 teams. In the second season, the number of clubs was reduced to 18, from 1993/94 there were only 16 teams. Since the season 1995/96 shall be attended only ten teams in the league competition. 1998/99 was an increase to twelve clubs, while each club had three games against every other team, ie a total of 33 season games. 2003/ 04 and 2004/ 05 there was a preliminary round, in which each team competing against each in a home and away. This was followed by a championship round, where the top six in each twice competed against one another. 2005/ 06 the number had been reduced to ten teams and introduced the below mode.

Current mode

Currently, ten teams will play for the championship. Each team enters two home and away games against every other team. The first table after the disputed parts is thus 36 Slovenian champion. The table Ninth denies two relegation matches against second the second Slovenian league. The-table rises automatically and is replaced by the champions of the second division.

As is common now in most leagues in the world there for a win three points for a draw, they get one point.
