History

After the release of their first album Wednesday Morning, 3 AM Art Garfunkel had resumed his architectural studies, and Paul Simon was professionally for a year in the UK; dates from this time the album The Paul Simon Songbook recorded for the BBC. Producer Tom Wilson, who had already produced the first album, recognized the looming success of folk music. He took some artists into the studio and mixed - in the absence of Simon and Garfunkel - an additional audio track for the recorded already for Wednesday Morning piece The Sounds of Silence from which was equipped with an electric guitar and a drum set. This version was released and reached within a short time the first place on the Billboard charts.

Simon and Garfunkel returned to the studio in order headed by Bob Johnston, who had meanwhile been replaced Wilson, who had retired after the production of Bob Dylan's song Like a Rolling Stone, recording a new album. In addition to the two pieces Somewhere They Can not Find Me, and We've Got a Groovey Thing Goin ', which had been still recorded already on April 5, 1965, Tom Wilson, all other titles were recorded in December 1965. The pictures used are from the 13th, 14th and 21st of December.

Trivia

  • Unlike later albums, Sounds of Silence contains no full text imprints, with most titles only a few stanzas are given. The two exceptions are Anji with the note: " Davey Graham, one of England 's finest blues guitarist" and We've Got a Groovey Thing Goin ' with the note: " Just for fun ".
  • The title Somewhere They Can not Find Me is a blend of two other titles: the music was written by Davey Graham's Anji, the text is - except for the chorus - from the song Wednesday Morning, 3 AM, was released on the eponymous album.
  • The launch of this version of The Sound of Silence was mixed two years later in the title Save the Life of My Child ( from the album Bookends ).
