South Sudan Oyee!

South Sudan oyee! (English as " South Sudan Hurrah " ) is the national anthem of South Sudan, which became independent on July 9, 2011.

History

Even before the independence of an eight- member committee was appointed by the government, which should select the new national anthem. It was announced a contest with rules to the content of the text. This should refer among other things to the people and the resources of South Sudan and the War of Independence. From 49 submissions, the Board elected in September 2010 from ten texts that came as the national anthem in question, these were then grouped into two textual variants. The Politburo of the SPLM finally certain one of them for future national anthem.

The music was determined as part of a competition, music lecturer Addison Arkangelo, Mido Samuel and another colleague from the University of Juba emerged from the victorious. They deliberately chose a cheerful melody that should stand out from the Sudanese national anthem.

Originally Land of Cush ( " land of Cush " ) was provided as a title. The name " Kush " referring to the ancient, mentioned in the Bible kingdom of Kush, the concept of the Garden of Eden is also a biblical origin. In February 2011, the already widespread text of the anthem was again modified and replaced the terms Cush and Eden by the now established new state name South Sudan.
