Brescia Calcio

The Stadio Mario Rigamonti is a stadium in the Italian city of Brescia, in Lombardy.

It is the home of the football club Brescia Calcio who currently plays in Serie B. The former capacity of over 27,000 seats had to be reduced, due to stricter safety regulations. At the moment, the capacity varies over again.

History

In the early 1950s, the municipality of Brescia, the largest stadium in the city, the stage at the viale Venezia, to be replaced by a more modern. Therefore, the Stadio Mario Rigamonti was built in 1956-1959 elsewhere. The arena was named after Mario Rigamonti, a son of the city, a member of the Grande Torino in 1949 and was the tragedy of Superga was killed.

Since then, the stadium was modernized again and again, in 2007 had to be cut almost in half the seating capacity due to new regulations for stadium safety. After promotion to Serie A in 2010, the capacity of 16,308 spectators was increased to 23 072 spectators by the lowest rank of the main stand and the lowest rank of the grandstand were released after the first three Serie A games. Reason for this change was that the Italian Football Federation for the Serie A prescribes a minimum capacity of 20,000 spectators. Since 2010, the whole southern curve is reserved for visiting fans. In the last Serie A game time visited about 10,000 spectators the home games of Brescia Calcio.

In 2012, a steel pipe grandstand was built right at the edge of the field on the north side bleachers, which serves as the new home of the Brescia fans. This new stand holds 2,000 spectators.
