Stadio Artemio Franchi – Montepaschi Arena

The Stadio Artemio Franchi (full name Stadio Comunale Artemio Franchi - Montepaschi Arena) is a football stadium with track and field facility in the Italian city of Siena.

It is the home of football first division side AC Siena with a capacity of 15,725 spectators. The Artemio Franchi was officially inaugurated on 8 December 1938, a friendly match between AC Siena and FC Empoli.

Initially the stadium was still called Stadio Rino Daus, later it was renamed Stadio Del Rastello before it received its present name, referring to the former UEFA president Artemio Franchi, who died in Siena.

After the rise of AC Siena in the Serie A in the summer of 2003, the Artemio Franchi was adjusted to the required standards of the highest Italian league. So some bleachers were replaced, build new sanitary facilities and created spaces for disabled people and journalists. The spectator capacity thus increased from 10,560 to 15,373 seats.

On 12 September 2007 the official stadium name was Montepaschi Arena added, referring to the main sponsor of the club, Monte dei Paschi di Siena, one of the largest banks in Italy.
