Stefan Luitz

Stefan Luitz (born 26 March 1992 Bolsterlang ) is a German alpine skier. He is especially successful in the disciplines of giant slalom and slalom.

Biography

After Luitz had since the end of 2007 denied first FIS races and first came in January 2009 in the European Cup for use, he celebrated in February 2009 with the second place in the giant slalom at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Szczyrk a first international success. The following year, he won at the Junior World Championship 2010 in Les Houches behind the Frenchman Mathieu Faivre the silver medal in the giant slalom.

Having good training runs in preparation for the season 2010/11 Luitz qualified for the squad of the German Ski World Cup. His first World Cup race, he played 8 January 2011 in the giant slalom in Adelboden, where he was eliminated in the first run. Although he spent the entire season without a World Cup result, he was re-nominated for the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. In team competition, he was reserve driver, in the giant slalom, he was ranked 29

At the beginning of the 2011/12 season Luitz reached in the giant slalom at Trysil his first podium in the European Cup. The following day he celebrated the second giant slalom at the same place the first victory. With a total of six podium finishes, he came second in the overall standings. On 26 February 2012, he won his first World Cup points when he qualified and 29 for the second round was the first time in the giant slalom in Crans -Montana. At the end of the season he was in the super-combined for the first time German champion.

On December 2, 2012 Luitz achieved in the giant slalom in Beaver Creek with 13th and his first top -20 result in the World Cup. A week later he reached the giant slalom in Val d'Isere with second place for the first time a World Cup podium after he had stood in the first run in 25th place. On February 12, 2013 Luitz won with the German team bronze at the World Championships in Schladming, came as a substitute driver in the race but not used. A few days later he was injured during training in Garmisch -Partenkirchen and thereby suffered a cruciate ligament injury. The healing process took place without complications. Under these circumstances, nevertheless surprising was his third place on 14 December 2013 giant slalom in Val d'Isere.
