Süderbergland

The Southshore Bergland, sometimes referred to as Süder Mountains, is a natural spatial feature unit group ( figure 33 or D38 ) of the Rhenish Slate Mountains in North Rhine -Westphalia and in the northwestern Hesse. It corresponds roughly to the historical regions of Sauerland, Bergisch land, country and winner Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Upland and the extreme northwest of the hinterland in Hesse.

Related Mountain

For Southshore mountains include several self-contained mountain ranges, which are commonly largely conducted under the term " Sauerland " - sorted by height in meters ( m) above mean sea level ( MSL ):

  • Rothaargebirge ( Langenberg, 843.2 m)
  • Hall Hauser mountains ( Himberg, 688.5 m)
  • Ebbegebirge (North Light, 663.3 m)
  • Lenne Mountains ( Homert, 656.1 m)
  • Arnsberg Forest ( 581.5 m)

In enumerations of the mountain ranges is given as 519.2 m height on the Homert often the Bergische Land. However, these are a spur of the ebb Mountains, while historic Bergische Land is otherwise in the gradual flattening of the Southshore mountain country to the Rhine.

In an analogous manner are the highest elevations of the historic winner country ( so the 677.7 m high belt ) is not in the natural spatial winner country (see main units), but in the Rothaargebirge. And the 633 m high Alteburg is true, even the natural area, the winning country, but is not the highest point of a ridge alone, but part of the winning country red-hair - Vorhöhen, the chamfering the Rothaar to the west.

The Hessian Upland in turn is part of the Rothaargebirge and its eastern mountain edge.

The units 3361 and 3362 are combined 3371 and 3372 also called West Auer countries Oberland ( 336) units also Bergisch- Sauerländisches lowlands. However this term contraptions are the problem due to that the decadal system allows only 10 three-digit codes, the Southshore Bergland but over 12 main units has.

The main units in detail

The Southshore Bergland is a geographically relatively extensive nature main spatial unit group. Nevertheless, the relief changes are normally only gently from a master unit to the next, with only passing the eastern slopes of the height of center of gravity Rothaargebirge comparatively abrupt. A recognizable from afar "Skyline " has accordingly none of the inner mountain ranges, but - even from the much flatter Arnsberg Forest of the northern Westphalian Bay - next to the Rothaargebirge of (South ) East. To the east, north and south of the central mountain range, therefore, take the low tide heights from very inconspicuous.

Means Victory Bergland

That means Victory Bergland (main unit 330 ) is present in about half of its eastern Rhineland -Palatinate, to the western Bergisch (NRW). It follows the course of victory in an east-west direction approximately from the municipality Mittelhof east knowledge to Hennef. The Siegtal divides the mountain country on both sides of the river in a northern, the Westerwald abdachenden and a southern part.

Winners country

The natural spatial winner country (main unit 331 ) is slightly south-west as the past. While parts of the Northeast Kreuztals, the East Hilchenbach and the outermost east Netphens be attributed to the Rothaargebirge, the north-east of the district Old churches in Rhineland-Palatinate is the natural area still counted as the winner country.

The Valley of victory divided the winning country in a northwest and a southeast part. The winning country red-hair - Vorhöhen the east of the Southeast part be high at the Altenburg to 633 m and go east just above the Rothaargebirge.

Ostsauerländer mountainous border

The mostly lying in Hesse Ostsauerländer mountainous border (main unit 332 ), the (northern South ) eastern slopes of the Rothaargebirge for West Hessian highland dar. Some part landscapes - such as the Medebacher Bay - are dominated by agriculture, other than forest areas only from high altitudes and relief ago to distinguish them from immediately to the west adjoining parts of the Rothaargebirge.

Rothaargebirge

The up to 843.2 m high Rothaargebirge (main unit 333 ) is the center of gravity of the Southshore mountain country. It extends from the east of the historic national winner in the west to far to Hesse in Upland and the Hessian hinterland, a southwest foothills to Kalteiche touches at the interface of the three participating states did almost the Westerwald.

North Auer countries Oberland

The North Auer countries Oberland (main unit 334 ) comprises the north-east of Southshore mountain country to Arnsberg, Sundern and Warstein at the northern interface to the hair strand. At the Plackweghöhe in Plackwald it is high up to 581.5 m.

Sauerland sinks

The Sauerland sinks ( main unit 335 ) are located in a contiguous, marked by hilly area around Meschede. Contrary to the name, there are also surveys to just above 600 m altitude in the sink.

The area of Sauerland valleys stretching from the upper middle reaches of the river Ruhr Meschede northeast until shortly before Brilon, while both sides of the Lenne Mountains a western corner to about Balve and Neuenrade pulls, a southwestern ( Wenne and Lenne with Elspe ) to Attendorn. In particular, lowering the ( south location ) Rothaargebirge from North Auer countries Oberland and the more western parts of the West Auer countries Oberland separate (see below).

Maerkisches Oberland

The märkische Oberland ( main unit 3361 ) extends along the middle reaches of the river Lenne between Plettenberg and High Limburg, the maturity of Volme to Hagen and on overflow of Ennepe to ( Ennepetal ) Milspe. Of the two, by far the largest cities in Brandenburg Lüdenscheid is north just outside within this main unit and Iserlohn.

Südsauerländer Bergland

In particular to Südsauerländer Bergland (main unit 3362 ) to include the over 688.5 m high mountain ranges hall Hauser mountains, Ebbegebirge and Lenne Mountains. During low tide and Lenne Mountains basically constitute a single, separate by Lenne in western and eastern mountain range, the Südsauerländer Rothaarvorhöhen can almost still viewed with the hall Hauser mountains as a northwestern foothills of the Rothaargebirge.

Inside the main unit is the Bigge.

Lower Bergisch- Maerkisches hills

The low Bergisch- märkische hills (main unit 3371 ) is the northwestern part of the Southshore mountain country at the junction with the West Hellweg ( in the north) and the Bergische Heath terraces ( Schlebusch - Wahner Heide) ( in the west) dar. in the southern Ruhr area is known in particular the Ardey Mountains.

The scenery touched the Ruhr area south of the line ( from East to West) Witten- Bochum -Essen and pushes west to the city of Düsseldorf. To the southeast lies largely outside the city of Hagen, in the middle south, the northern half of Wuppertal is taken approximately.

Niederauer country

The Niederauer country (main unit 3372 ) constitutes the northern slope of the Südsauerländer Oberland or the Märkischen Oberland to Westphalian Bay dar. It joins from the Ruhr lowlands in Neheim- Hüsten west to the Arnsberg Forest and bordered to the north, like the latter, to the hair strand. While the hill country north of the Ruhr stops abruptly, it contains linksruhrisch the mouth runs of Roehr, Sorpe ( with Sorpesee ) Hönne, Lenne, Volme and Ennepe and includes the towns of Menden, Hemer and Iserlohn.

Bergische plateaus

The Bergische plateaus (main unit 338 ) represent the heartland of contemporary research on the upper reaches of the river Wupper Niederbergisches country; they bordered to the west directly to the Cologne Bight.

Mountains of the Upper Agger and Wiehl

The mountains of the Upper Agger and Wiehl (main unit 338 ) is a smaller natural space in the main unit Oberbergi, in the south to the southeast of the Bergische Land. The main river is the dewatered to win Agger. The relief of the mountains is more varied than that of the north-west of Bergisch adjacent plateaus.

Adjoining the main unit groups

North of the Southshore Bergland goes in the Westphalian Bight ( 54 = D34 ) above, in the extreme northeast to the Upper Weser Uplands ( 36 part of Lower Saxony's mountain country D36 ).

In the East, the West Hessian Bergland includes (34) on, to the south of the Westerwald ( 32 = D39 ).

The Rhine valley as western boundary is divided in the middle Rhine area ( 29 = D44, extreme southwest) and the Bay of Cologne (55, west) and the Lower Rhine Lowland (57, northwest), which together form D35.
