The John Lennon Collection is the title of the second compilation album of John Lennon and also the first that has been published after his death.

Genesis

In November 1982 EMI released in Europe and Geffen Records in the USA, a compilation album of John Lennon with different track list. In the U.S., on the LP version does not include the songs Happy Xmas (War Is Over) and Stand by Me. On the occasion of the release of the album Love was released in Europe as a single. It is in the contributed by the EMI tracks, apart from Jealous Guy, exclusively to singles. ( Roxy Music, published in February 1981, a cover version of Jealous Guy, reaching number one on the charts in the UK, in November 1985, the Lennon version was released on single in the UK). Geffen Records contributed six of the seven John Lennon tracks (excluding Cleanup Time) on the album Double Fantasy. # 9 Dream was specifically for the vinyl album edited (shortened). Furthermore, completely Give Peace a Chance (worldwide) and Happy Xmas (War Is Over) (in Europe) was the first time available on a long playing record.

In 1989, the EMI the rights to the recordings of Double Fantasy and released a CD version of the album The John Lennon Collection with bonus tracks Move Over Ms. L (first CD release ) and Cold Turkey.

The cover images were photographed by Annie Leibovitz on December 8, 1980 the date of death of John Lennon.

Publication

In the U.S., the album was ranked number 33 in the UK number one in the charts in Germany, was at number 64 of the U.S. charts the album. First published in CD format was made in October 1989 worldwide at EMI with a uniform title list. The CD release from 1989 has not yet been newly remastered.

In October 1992, the 80 -minute video collection The John Lennon Video Collection containing 19 videos of John Lennon appeared. A DVD release was not made.

Love

(B-side: Give Me Some Truth ) as a single a remixed version of Love was in the UK and Germany in November 1982 coupled out of the Album ( UK: No. 41, Germany: no placement, no publication in the U.S.).

Happy X - Mas (War Is Over)

In the U.S., the single Happy X - Mas (War Is Over) / Beautiful Boy ( Darling Boy) was released in November 1982, which is located either on the U.S. version of the album still was able to place in the U.S. charts.
