Mind Games is the title of the fourth solo album by John Lennon after the breakup of the Beatles. In addition, it marked the beginning of the separation stage with Yoko Ono. Mind Games is different from his previous album, Some Time in New York City less politically and also uses other musical accents.

Genesis

Shortly after John Lennon and Yoko Ono were drawn into the Dakota in New York, they separated for over a year to test whether their relationship is strong enough. Yoko Ono asked May Pang, his secretary, to accompany Lennon. John Lennon and May Pang had in the so-called " Lost Weekend ", which was to last more than a year of having an affair. This summer, Lennon wrote in a short time the pieces for the album Mind Games. The songs were recorded in July-August 1973 in the " Record Plant Studios " in New York. Lennon dedicated for the recordings among others, the studio musicians Jim Keltner (drums) and David Spinozza ( guitar).

All the pieces were composed by John Lennon.

Nutopia

On 1 April 1973 Lennon and Ono called out the state Nutopia. In Nutopia is a fictional country that has no territory, no limits and no passports. The anthem is not national, but international and consists of three seconds of silence, which can be heard on the LP as Nutopian International Anthem. In Nutopia no laws except the cosmic apply. All residents Nutopias are also ambassadors of the country. The flag of Nutopia is a white handkerchief. Publication

Another song of the recording sessions, Rock and Roll People, was only in October 1986 on the album Menlove Ave. published. In the U.S., the album reached the ninth place in the UK number 13 in the charts in Germany could not place the album.

The first released in CD format in August 1987. In October 2002, the album in a remastered and remixed version with three bonus tracks ( demo versions) was re-released. More shots had already been released on the box set John Lennon Anthology. The CD release from 2002 has been re- remastered by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab ( MFSL ) and was released in December 2004 as a 24 -karat gold-plated CD in a limited edition. In October 2010, the album was again in a remastered version, this time in the original mix and without bonus tracks, re-released.
