Toaripi Lauti

Sir Toaripi Lauti GCMG, PC ( born November 28, 1928 in Papua New Guinea ) is a tuvaluischer politicians.

October 2, 1975 he was Minister of the island nation. After achieving sovereignty on 1 October 1978 Lauti was appointed the first prime minister of the country. He held this position until September 8, 1981, when he was forced to resign for his alleged involvement in an investment scandal.

Nine years later, on 1 October 1990, Lauti was appointed Governor-General of Tuvalu, the representative of the British monarch as head of state. This office he held until December 1, 1993.
