Tony Dorsett

Anthony " Tony" Drew Dorsett ( born April 7, 1954 in Rochester, Pennsylvania, USA ), Nick Name: The Hawk is a former American football player. He played mainly on the position of running backs in the National Football League ( NFL).

College

Dorsett is one of the most successful players of all time in college football. In 1973 he received a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh and played for the Pittsburgh Panthers as a halfback. In 1976 his team win under head coach Johnny Mayors, the National Collegiate Championship. The required election by the American press was the team due to all twelve games won of the season, the Sugar Bowl to decide among them, for themselves.

During his studies Dorsett scored a total space gain of 6082 yards, which was at that time a record. Even as a freshman he could Walk 265 yards in a single game, this also presented an NCAA record represents a year later he was able to increase its performance again and achieve 303 Yards space gain in a game against the University of Notre Dame. Dorsett played in four Pro Bowls, the final game of the best players of the season. He was five times elected to the All- Pro and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and was honored on the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor. In 1976, he won the Heisman Trophy and a year later was NFL Rookie of the Year. In his home state of Pennsylvania a football stadium named after him.

After the career

Dorsett worked occasionally as a television presenter and actor. His son, Anthony Dorsett was a cornerback for the Oakland Raiders. Dorsett is now owner of an advertising agency.
