Tučepi

Tucepi is a seaside resort on the Adriatic coast in Croatia (Makarska Riviera ) with 1,931 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).

Geography

The place is a magnet for tourists. He can be reached via the A1 highway Zagreb- Split ( Dubrovnik ) or the Adriatic Highway ( Jadranska Magistrala ).

The community ( 1,931 inhabitants) is located in the Split-Dalmatia County. In addition to the main town of Tucepi you belong to the hamlet Podpeć, Čovići, Srida sela, Šimići and Podstup. Geographically, there is the village below the mountain Biokovo and is opposite the islands of Brac and Hvar.

History

In the 6th and 7th century AD Croats settled in the area. In 925, Tucepi came to the newly founded Kingdom of Croatia under King Tomislav. In the year 1000 the Venetian fleet defeated Croatia. Tucepi and some other eastern Adriatic coastal villages and towns (except Dubrovnik) came temporarily under Venetian administration. King Petar Krešimir IV conquered the territories back. After the fall of Venice in 1797 and the short reign of France under Napoleon ( 1809-1813 ), Austria took over the rule over Croatia. Later Tucepi came to the Kingdom of Croatia within the Habsburg monarchy. Beginning of the 20th century Tucepi in the state of " South Slavs " (Yugoslavia) has been integrated. Tucepi Since 1945 belongs to the Socialist Republic of Croatia, which is the Republic of Croatia since independence in 1991.

Tucepi is also the starting point for climbers in the mountain Biokovo.
