Turin–Milan railway

The railway line Turin - Milan is a double track main line between the northern Italian cities of Turin and Milan. Since 2006, however, the intra Italian high-speed runs on the parallel-running high-speed line Turin - Milan.

History

As the first section of the inner-city section of line between the two stations Turin Porta Nuova and Porta Susa was opened on 25 May 1854. 1854 was Thomas Brassey, the portion Turin Porta Susa Novara by the Società Vittorio Emanuele, which was named after the then King of Sardinia and Piedmont, Victor Emmanuel II, opened. As of October 18, 1858 it was extended to Trecate on the banks of the Ticino, which then formed the boundary between Sardinia - Piedmont and then to the United Kingdom Austria belonging Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia. On the same day the route between Milan and Magenta was opened on the opposite bank of the river in Lombardy-Venetia. The gap closure was accomplished on June 1, 1859, the bridge over the river.

Between 1865 and 1885 it was owned by the Società per le strade ferrate dell'Alta Italia, then moved over to the Società per le Strade Ferrate del Mediterraneo and finally came when in 1905 the Italian railway companies were nationalized in possession of the Ferrovie dello Stato FS.

2008, the former railway station Torino Porta Susa was replaced by an underground station of the same name, which will form from 2011 the new Turin central station, also in preparation for the Mont- Cenis base tunnels.

Traffic

Long-distance traffic

Since 2006 operates within the Italian high-speed traffic ( Euro Star Italia) to the parallel high-speed line, so that over the Altstrecke long-distance transport only two daily Euro Star City Italia - train pairs ( Frecciabianca ) Torino Porta Nuova Venezia Santa Lucia, the intercity trains Turin - Milan, and the TGV Paris -Gare de Lyon -Milan operate.

Also driving the circulating with Talgo Euro Night Milan -Barcelona França on the Altstrecke. The trains of the SFS use the Altstrecke between Torino Porta Nuova and Torino Stura and between Rho Fiera Milano and Milan.

Regional Transport

S -Bahn

At the Turin section, on lines FM 1, FM 2 and FM 4 of urban rail transport.

The section Novara -Milan is traversed by the line S6 S-Bahn Milan, from Rho that we can add to S5.

Other regional transport

Between Turin and Milan runs non-stop 18 regional trains per day. In addition, at various regional trains between Vercelli and Novara and Turin.
