Turon-Nationalpark

The Turon National Park is a national park in the eastern part of the Australian state of New South Wales in the small town of Capertee, 150 km north west of Sydney and 40 km north-west of Lithgow. In 1983 the site was proposed at the headwaters of the Turon River as a protected area, but only in 2002 was the establishment of the national park.

In the area of today's Turon National Park was in 1851 a gold rush take place, and today one can see the remains of this period. The then deforested pastureland is still recognizable today. Casuarina trees growing on the river banks, and various species of eucalyptus cover the slopes. A large number of birds living in the park, and the Red wallabies spend their days on the peaks and ridges of sandstone hills and pull up at twilight in the valleys back.

The park is relatively high: the valley is located at about 750 meters, the peaks and ridges to approximately 850 meters. This is due to its location on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range. In the cooler months the temperatures drop below 0 ° C.

The entrance to the valley floor is difficult with road vehicles, and after heavy rainfall is even discourage the use of four-wheel drive vehicles. There are two campgrounds within the park grounds, Woolshed Flat and The Diggings.
