United Nations Security Council Resolution 1986

Resolution 1986 of the UN Security Council adopted on 13 June 2011, Recalling all resolutions on the situation in Cyprus, in particular resolutions 1251 and 1953 of the UN Security Council. The Security Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus ( UNFICYP ) for a further six months until 15 December 2011 and calls the Greek and Cypriot side to step up their calls. The resolution was adopted unanimously.

The resolution calls on the two Cypriot leaders Derviş Eroğlu and Demetris Christofias to step up their calls to improve the atmosphere and the involvement of civil society stronger. Both sides are encouraged to participate in consultations with UNFICYP on the demarcation of the buffer zone and the non-paper of 1989.

The Turkish side was urged to restore the military status quo from before June 30, 2000 in Strovilia. Both sides will be asked to allow the site clearance of mines. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki -moon was asked to submit, by December 1, 2011, a report on the implementation of Resolution 1986 of the Security Council.
