United Nations Security Council Resolution 1987

Resolution 1987 of the UN Security Council was adopted on June 17, 2011 by acclamation. In the resolution, the Security Council of the United Nations General Assembly recommends to choose the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki -moon for a second term.

Originally, the decision should already fall a day earlier. It was postponed because the Group of Latin American and Caribbean countries did not want to speak for Ban. In the decision, however, this has no effect, since the General Assembly elects the Secretary-General on the recommendation of the Security Council.

On June 21, 2011 Ban Ki -moon was elected by the General Assembly for a second term of office from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2016.
