Vadvetjåkka National Park

The Swedish National Park Vadvetjåkka lies to the west of the lake in the northern Tornetrask Lapland at the border to Norway. It extends over an area of ​​2,630 hectares and was established in 1920.

The goal of the facility was the preservation of a high mountain landscape northern in their natural state. The park is characterized by a high ridge with birch forests, swamps, glaciers, bodies of water and bare rock. In addition to the mountain range are aligned in north-south direction valleys and the mountain foothills to the park. Since the National Park is not far from the Atlantic Ocean, it comes here often to rainfall than in other Swedish mountain landscapes.

The Vadvetjåkka is difficult to access. There is a trail from the Bay Pålnoviken in Tornetrask. Go to this bay public boat tours of the places Abisko and Björkliden. Another, 12 -km hiking trail leads from the station Låktajåkka ( Kiruna -Narvik railway line ) to the National Park.
