Val-et-Châtillon

Val -et -Châtillon is a commune with 646 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle in the Lorraine region; it belongs to the district Luneville and Canton Cirey- sur- Vezouze.

Geography

The municipality is located on the upper Vezouze on the edge of the Vosges, about 30 kilometers east of Luneville

History

Leudinus Bodo, Bishop of Toul, founded around 670 a woman Convention whose first abbess was his daughter Thieberga. The monastery was named after him until the 13th century Bodoni Monasterium, later Bonmoutier. The landscape around the monastery was called Val de Bonmoutier, of which the first finds in the place names.
