Valérie Fourneyron

Valérie Fourneyron ( born October 4, 1959 in Le Petit- Quevilly, Seine- Maritime) is a French politician of the Parti Socialiste ( PS), since 2008 and Mayor of Rouen since May 2012 Minister for Sport, Youth, public education and community life in the cabinet of Prime Minister Jean -Marc Ayrault.

Life

Studies, physician and local politician

After attending school Valérie Fourneyron studied medicine and graduated as Doctor of Medicine from. Later she attended training of the Collège des Economistes de la santé ( CES) in biology and sports medicine and also earned a diploma in sports traumatology. After she was Head of Department of Sports Medicine at the Ministry of Youth and Sports between 1989 and 1991, she was Medical Regionalinspektorin of Youth and Sports and worked as a sports medicine later.

Her political career began in local politics when she was elected as representative of the PS in 1995 as a member of the City Council of Rouen, where she was employed until 2004.
