Velike Lašče

Velike Lašče ( German: Großlaschitz ) is a municipality in the Lower Carniola region of Slovenia.

Population and location

In the three villages from the Veliki Lašče (German: " Großlaschnitz " ), Rob (German: " Roob " ) and Turjak (German: " Auersperg " ) and 88 hamlets existing collective community live 4,153 people. The main town of Veliki Lašče alone has 649 inhabitants and is located at 526 m in the forested karst landscape 30 km south of Ljubljana.

History

The settlement grew out of an estate and was first mentioned in 1145. 1913 was the place market rights. By the end of the Habsburg Empire Velike Lašče belonged to the crown land of Carniola, the location had been the seat of the judicial district of the same name Großlaschnitz and belonged to the district Gottschee. In 1994, the total municipality Veliki Lašče was founded.

Worth seeing in the district Turjak the Auersperg Palace, which of those is the historic headquarters of the old Austrian noble family von Auersperg. In 1067 it was built as a castle and later destroyed several times, but always rebuilt. It survived the Turkish attacks and 1511 an earthquake. After that, the castle was rebuilt into a castle. During WW2 it was partially destroyed. Although the renovation works are still ongoing, but the stately castle is often used again.

Fran Levstik the poet Josip Stritar the writer and the preacher Primus Truber who is immortalized on the 1 euro coin Slovenia, have created the "cradle of Slovenian culture " from the area. A cultural, Velike Lašče out, leading to the locations of these three important people in the community.
