Vellerot-lès-Vercel

Vellerot -lès -Vercel is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vellerot -lès -Vercel is located on 625 m above sea level, 14 km south-southeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 32 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a depression on the high plateau of Villers east of the basin of Orsans.

The 4.57 km ² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the plateau of Villers, which is on average 650 m. It is consisted of arable and meadow land and falls to the north of the trough Landresse, westward from the basin of Orsans. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. With 703 m is reached on a hill east of the village is the highest elevation of Vellerot -lès -Vercel.

Neighboring communities of Vellerot -lès -Vercel are Courtetain -et- Salans and Landresse in the north, Villers- la -Combe in the east, Villers- Chief in the south and Bremondans and Orsans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Vellerot -lès- Passavant Vercel belonged to the rule, which was owned by the Lords of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté was the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Vellerot -lès -Vercel is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

On 1 January 2009, the district membership of the community has changed. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Population

With 50 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Vellerot -lès -Vercel of the smallest municipalities in the department of Doubs. After 1881 182 people had been counted yet, the population increased during the 20th century distinctive. This trend continues to this day.

Economy and infrastructure

Vellerot -lès -Vercel was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Vercel - Villedieu -le- Camp to Vellevans. Another road connection with Villers- la -Combe.
