Video recorder scheduling code

VIDEO Plus ™ [ ˌ ʃoʊ vju ː ] (also: VCRPlus, Video Plus ) is a system to simplify the programming of recordings for television broadcasts in video recorders and DVD recorders, the (formerly Gemstar ) is offered by Rovi Corporation.

Principle of operation

For each TV program a one-to nine-digit code number is generated, which contains in coded form the date, station, start time and duration of the program. This show View codes are usually published in the program guides.

A Show View -compatible recorder can decode this code number and extract the information contained therein to a broadcast ( sender, send date / transmit time, broadcast duration ) for timer programming.

The VIDEO Plus Code is based on a standardized mapping of programs to program locations. Is this not the same as programming the VCR, the assignment must be changed once by entering the so-called VIDEO Plus guide number or by correction in programming. This guide number is also called Guide Channel Number ( GCN ).

VIDEO Plus is not the same as VPS. VIDEO Plus and VPS are independent systems that complement each other, but have nothing else to do with each other. VIDEO Plus was developed to simplify the timer programming of VCRs, and works even when there is no VPS data is transmitted from the transmitter. VPS contrast controls an already programmed (with or without Show View) recording. In contrast to the VPS programmed with Showview recorder detects no program installation.

There now exist algorithms which allow up to eight -digit codes can be decrypted and encrypted.

History and related systems

Gemstar led Showview 1991 under the name VCRPlus in the United States in 1992 under the name Video Plus in the UK and then in 1993 as a show view in German speaking countries. Although the systems based on the same idea, but are not completely identical. In particular, the code base has been adapted to the specific national television conditions.

The license to reprint showview codes in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the company sells Kipkakomiks headquartered in Munich.

In current devices Showview is increasingly supplemented or replaced by the " Electronic Program Guide" ( EPG), which allows to program a program by selecting from a list. The advantage of Showview is that not only must be browsed to the desired program or programs also can be programmed, which are not yet listed in the EPG.
