Villers-Grélot
Villers- Grélot is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.
Geography
Villers- Grélot is located at 380 m, 10 km west of Baume- les -Dames, and about 20 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon on an exposed south-facing slope at the foot of Mont Bichoux.
The area of 7.02 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The southern part of the area is occupied by a pool, which is on average 340 m. It is mainly with arable and meadow land existed to the east with forest ( Gros Buisson ). To the north, the municipality's area covers over the slope of Villers- Grélot up on the ridge of the Mont Bichoux with the Bois de la Cote du Mont Here the highest elevation of Villers- Grélot is achieved with 509 m. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.
Neighboring communities of Villers- Grélot are La Tour -de- Sçay, Cendrey and Rougemontot in the North, Val -de- Roulans in the east, Le Puy to the south and Pouligney - Lusans in the West.
History
In the Middle Ages Villers- Grélot belonged to the rule Roulans. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.
Population
With 153 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Villers- Grélot one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 236 people were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again. Since then, the population has doubled.
Economy and infrastructure
Villers- Grélot was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in the agglomeration Besançon.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Corcelle - Mieslot to Val -de- Roulans. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 8 km. Another road connection with Le Puy.
