Villers-Grélot

Villers- Grélot is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villers- Grélot is located at 380 m, 10 km west of Baume- les -Dames, and about 20 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon on an exposed south-facing slope at the foot of Mont Bichoux.

The area of ​​7.02 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The southern part of the area is occupied by a pool, which is on average 340 m. It is mainly with arable and meadow land existed to the east with forest ( Gros Buisson ). History

In the Middle Ages Villers- Grélot belonged to the rule Roulans. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Population

With 153 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Villers- Grélot one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 236 people were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again. Since then, the population has doubled.

Economy and infrastructure
