Career

Lucic, who had played until 1967 even with Red Star Basketball, already focused mid-twenties to work as a trainer and became first coach in the youth sector of Red Star. In 1970 he was coach of the women's team of rivals Partizan. This he remained for five years, where he could celebrate more success at this time. From 1975 he was in his main occupation coach of the Nigerian Mr selection and remained so for four years. In the African Cup of 1981, he was then coach of the Ivorian selection, in the previous sweeps to win the competition after two silver medals for the first time. In the 1983 African Cup they lost as defending the semi-final against the hosts and eventual champions Egypt. In the " small final " for the bronze medal as they lost in the first round against Senegal and was the first time in three tournaments without a medal. Subsequently, Lucic ' activity focus shifted back to its Yugoslav homeland.

In the 1985/86 season was Lucic 's successor Zoran Slavníč as coach of the men's team of Partizan Belgrade, which he took over for the first time as a responsible coach a men's team at the highest level. Lucic was soon replaced by his assistant Dusko Vujošević and coached from 1987 back women's teams, where he now for the first time reached with the selection of its common association Red Star also at club level title successes in 1989 and won the Yugoslav Championship. In the Yugoslav Cup competition of the ladies but it was only enough to move into the finals. From 1990, Lucic again worked abroad and coached the women's team from Challes -les -Eaux in Savoy, with whom he won the 1991 and 1992 two French championships. 1992 Lucic was also coach of the men's team of Red Star as the successor of Dusko Vujošević. With the runner-up, he was able to defeat in the final series in 1993 the reigning European champions and defending champions Partizan, who had, however, lost after the triumph in the previous coaches and players abroad. In the following season the team was with the young player Dejan Tomasevic Center defend the title against Partizan. Then you had to accept the loss of his construction player Saša Obradovic, who was brought from Svetislav Pešić to ALBA Berlin, during the 17 -year-old youth players Predrag Stojaković moved to Greece.

Svetislav Pešić, who had won before his work as a club coach at ALBA with the German master national surprisingly the European Championship in Germany in 1993, recommended the same time his compatriot Lucic as his successor as national coach, in the meantime by Dirk Bauer man as interim coach at the World Cup finals in 1994 had been completed. After Red Star could not repeat the success of the previous two years, eventually lost his job Lucic in 1995 as a club coach and focused on the job as national coach. With the German national team Lucic ran only a gentle one remodeling the reigning European champion, who was virtually put right in the European Championship finals in 1995 back to the normal level before the surprise success of 1993 in their own country. Without the European champion Mike Jackel, who had ended his international career, the absent Henning Harnisch and Stephan Baeck won an otherwise existing at the core of European champions selection in six group matches only the game against the winless hosts Sweden. Two years later, Lucic turned around the situation, because sometimes long lasting players had finished their national careers. Except for the European champions Henning Harnisch and Henrik Rödl and Sascha Hupmann no player was older than 24 years. The 19 -year-old junior player Dirk Nowitzki, who played in the second basketball league and had not yet played up to that point in fully professional leagues and international competitions in the men's area, however, was not represented. But the reconstruction again had a disappointing result as they won high at the European Championship finals in 1997 only against Ukraine in the first round. After further defeats in intermediate and Placement Round was finally finished in Catalonia twelfth place and Lucic ' contract as coach was not renewed selection.

In the 1997/98 season Lucic as the third head coach this season was again coach of Red Star in his hometown. After the first leg success in Verona you can still but lost the return leg in Belgrade with nine points difference, which three points were in the final too. After defending champions Partizan weakened in the national championship, could Lucic Red Star in the final series lead against runner- FMP Železnik. After an opening win and a defeat in the second game but Lucic was surprisingly relieved of his duties and Mihailo Pavićević enthroned in the short term. Red Star won the following games and was again champion. Partizan dominated in the following years, the Yugoslav and Serbian Championship, so that Lucic was involved in the only three titles success of Red Star in the national championship since the breakup of the former Yugoslavia in 1992 as a coach (as of 2013). Also Partizan " zerschliss " in those years, many coaches and so Lucic was in the following season briefly coach of Partizan, with whom he won the national cup competition in 1999, and in the season 1999/2000 again for some games at Red Star. In 2000, he took over again for a longer period, the women's team of Red Star, which he could pursue in 2001 and 2003 and the 2003 Cup victory in 2004 to double after two final series defeats. After this success, Lucic ended its activity in 2004 as manager of teams in top divisions.

In the first half of 2010, Lucic was briefly president of the basketball division of Red Star. He tried to bring in the chronically strapped men's team a merger with local rivals FMP Železnik, which should, however, follow a year later, and already presented end of June 2010 from his position becomes available.
