Voice of the Arabs

Cairo Radio is the international radio stations in Egypt and part of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union ( ERTU ). Since the revolution in 2011, the reporting of previously state-controlled transmitter is free and independent.

Radio Cairo is a member of the International Media Assistance ( IMH ) and the European Broadcasting Union ( EBU). In the German section six Egyptian editors and five German Translator and Speaker or Moderators are active.

History

The establishment of broadcasting in Egypt dates back to the 1930s. The Egyptian singer and musician Umm Kulthum inaugurated in May 1934 Radio Cairo. This first national broadcaster Egypt was created by an agreement of the Marconi Company and the BBC Britain

Since 1958, the Egyptian Broadcasting sends in German. At this time a multilingual radio program was established, which today is still transmitted in 35 languages.
