Vouhenans

Vouhenans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vouhenans situated at an altitude of 295 m above sea level, 4 km south-southwest of Lure and about 25 km east of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the eastern part of the department, in the plane of Lure, east of the river Ognon.

The area of ​​8.36 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the level of Lure. The Floodplain on the edge of the Vosges is on average 285 m. It is crossed by the rivers Ognon and Rahin flowing with numerous windings through a formerly swampy area to the southwest. The plane is used partly agricultural, partly it is passed with riparian forest. Between Ognon and Rahin is the hill Butte de Châtillon, on the 333 m, the highest elevation of Vouhenans is achieved. It consists along with the southern continuation, the Champ Grenier (313 m) of limestone of the middle Triassic.

The western boundary runs along the Ognon and his right side Bach Reigne the edge of the Bois de Talère. To the east, the municipality's area extends over the lowlands of Rahin in the extensive Grove des Bois du Marais (308 m ) and the Bois du Vernois (307 m), in which there are three fish pond. In geological- tectonic terms, this portion is constructed of a alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

At the hamlet of Pont Vouhenans Charivari (286 m ) west heard in the lowlands of Rahin. Neighboring communities of Vouhenans are Magny- Vernois and Lure in the North, Moffans -et- Vacheresse to the east, La Vergenne, Gouhenans and Le Val -de- Gouhenans in the south and Vy- lès -Lure in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Vouhenans in 1178 under the name Vulnens. From 1317 the name Vounens is preserved. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the monastery of Lure. Together with the Franche -Comté Vouhenans came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Only in 1783 were the inhabitants awarded certain liberties. Today Vouhenans is a member of the 22 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Lure.

Attractions

The church of Saint Nicolas was built at the beginning of the 18th century. Two side chapels were added in 1830. The internal design is one valuable furniture, including the richly carved choir stalls ( 18th century). Before the church is the Croix Saint- Nicolas, a dated on 1503 cross of red sandstone, which is a monument historique classified since 1979.

Population

With 389 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vouhenans one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 524 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1960s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Vouhenans has long been a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture, fruit growing and animal husbandry ) and forestry embossed village. The water power of Ognon and Rahin was formerly used for the operation of mills ( Moulin Rouge, Moulin Blanc and Moulin Vert ).
