Gouhenans

Gouhenans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Gouhenans situated at an altitude of 299 m above sea level, 7 km north-northeast of Villers Exel and about 24 km east of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village extends into the hollow of the village stream at the eastern foot of the Mont, east of the Valley of the Ognon and on the southern edge of the plain of Lure.

The area of ​​8.45 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of east Ognon Valley. The central part of the area is drained by the village stream north to Rahin. This marks the northern boundary of the municipality before it empties into the Ognon. The western part is occupied by about one kilometer wide and two kilometers long ridge of the Mont, on the 381 meters, the highest elevation of Gouhenans is achieved. It is composed of a layer of lime of the middle Jurassic period. In the south the valley of the Ruisseau de la Saline forms the border, which supplies its water the Ognon. The area is primarily used for agricultural purposes. History

Is first mentioned Gouhenans in 1186th in the Middle Ages Gouhenans formed the center of a dominion which was dependent on the Lords of Granges. The noble family of de Gouhenans family became extinct in the 15th century. The castle was burnt down several times, including in 1472 by the Lorena and 1636 during the Thirty Years' War by the Swedes. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1819, salt deposits were discovered in Gouhenans. Attractions

The Church of Gouhenans was extensively rebuilt in 1680, with parts of the previous medieval building were used.
