Villargent

Villargent is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villargent situated at an altitude of 286 m above sea level, 4 km east of Villers Exel and about 26 km east-southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village extends in the plane of Villersexel west of the valley of the Ruisseau de Beveuge in the catchment of Ognon.

The area of ​​2.86 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plains at Villers Exel. The central part of the area is crossed from south to north from the valley of the Ruisseau de Beveuge, which provides for drainage to Scey. This Talniederung is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which is on average 290 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas, particularly in the south. West of the village is achieved with 300 m the highest elevation of Villargent.

Neighboring communities of Villargent are Beveuge in the north, Saint- Ferjeux and Georfans in the east, the south and Mélecey Villers- la -Ville in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Villargent belonged to the rule Grammont, whereby the priory Marast had land in the village. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. After that it was in the 18th century in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Grammont, who resided now in Villersexel. Since 2000 Villargent is a member of the 33- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villers Exel. Ecclesiastically the place belongs to the parish Mélecey.

Population

With 116 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Villargent one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, the population moved always in the range 90 to 125 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Villargent was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road that leads from Villersexel after Héricourt. Further road links exist with Beveuge and Fallon.
