Oppenans

Oppenans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Oppenans situated at an altitude of 277 m above sea level, six kilometers north-west of Villers Exel and about 17 km east-southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in the valley of Lauzin between the heights of the Grands Bois in the southwest and Oricourt in the Northeast.

The area of ​​3.57 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside between the basin of Vesoul in the west and the valley of the Ognon in the southeast. From north to south the area is crossed by the valley of the Lauzin, which provides for drainage to Ognon. The Alluvialniederung is on average 275 m and has a maximum width of 500 meters. Agricultural land use predominates in this valley.

Is flanked Talniederung the east by the amount of Oricourt, west and southwest by the wooded ridge to the Grands Bois. With 400 meters, the highest elevation of Oppenans is achieved in the Bois du Nouvelet. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends into the Grove Le Grand Fougeray. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists mainly of a resistant layer of chalk of the middle Jurassic period.

Neighboring communities of Oppenans are Justin Mont -et- Velotte and Oricourt in the north, Aillevans in the east, Villersexel in the south and Borey in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Oppenans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had subsequently held the family Cordemoy in the 17th century by the Lords of Mont Justin. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Oppenans is a member of the 30 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villers Exel.

Attractions

Worth the 1823 round fountain is erected in the village square with its column. The Musée d' Antan in a former farmhouse has an exhibition on the rural life ( machinery, equipment, crafts) of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Population

With 58 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Oppenans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 143 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Oppenans is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Villersexel to Mont Justin. Further road links exist with Borey and Oricourt.
