Georfans

Georfans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Georfans situated at an altitude of 295 m above sea level, 6 km east-southeast of Villers Exel and 28 km east-southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village stretches along the edge of the plain of Villersexel both sides of the village Bach, on the northwestern edge of the hills, which stretches between the valleys of Ognon and Doubs.

The area of ​​2.99 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills southeast of the Ognontals. The central part of the area is crossed from south to north of the Talniederung the village stream, which flows a little less than Georfans in the Ruisseau de la Prairie. This forms the northern boundary of the municipality and provides drainage to Scey. To the west, the area extends in the plane of Villersexel which is forested mainly in this area. East of the village stands a hill, which is composed mainly of limestone. Here the highest point of Georfans is achieved with 375 m.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Ferjeux Georfans are in the north, Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans in the east, Courchaton and Grammont in the south and Mélecey and Villargent in the West.

History

The territory of Georfans was settled very early, after which point traces from prehistoric times to the hallway Le Creux -des- fées. In the Middle Ages Georfans belonged to the rule Granges, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2000 Georfans is a member of the 33- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villers Exel. Ecclesiastically the place belongs to the parish of Saint- Ferjeux.

Population

With 62 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Georfans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 153 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Georfans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, working in the village inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Saint- Ferjeux to Fallon.
