Granges-le-Bourg

Granges- le -Bourg is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Granges -le- Bourg is located at an altitude of 330 m above sea level, 11 km east of Villers Exel and about 17 km west-northwest of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is set in the rolling countryside of the southeast of the department, on a hill east of the valley of Scey, on the southwestern edge of the heights of the Bois de Granges.

The area of ​​10.35 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills between the valleys of Ognon and Doubs. The southern part of the area belongs to a trough that is drained to Scey by the parallel flowing streams Ruisseau du Pont du Rond and Ruisseau de Mouillère to the west. This is a short section on the western boundary of the municipality. The trough is used predominantly agricultural.

To the north, the municipality's area extends into the vast forest area of the Bois de Granges. It is an average lying at 400 m plateau, which is divided by numerous erosion valleys of streams in the headwaters of Scey and Rognon. With 453 m find the highest mountains of Granges- le -Bourg is achieved. The plateau forms the southwestern continuation of the Vosges and is mainly composed of red sandstone.

History

Is first mentioned Granges in 1105. The beginnings of the reign Granges, which belonged at that time the most important of the Free County of Burgundy, are in the dark. The Lords of Granges built probably in the 11th century on the hill a heavily fortified castle, to which developed the village. After the French Revolution Granges- le -Bourg was capital of the canton of the same name, which has already been abolished in 1801 and merged with the Canton of Villers Exel. A merger with the surrounding villages (La Chapelle- lès -Granges, Crevans, Granges- la -Ville, Mignafans, Mignavillers and Secenans ) made ​​Granges- le -Bourg in 1807 to a large community. Attractions

From the medieval castle (11th-12th century) ruins are preserved. With 377 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Granges- le -Bourg is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 374 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded particularly during the 1950s again. Economy and infrastructure

Granges- le -Bourg was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
