Granges-la-Ville

Granges- la -Ville is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Granges- la- Ville is located at an altitude of 300 m above sea level, 10 km east of Villers Exel and approximately 18 km west-northwest of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is set in the rolling countryside of the southeast of the département, on the southwestern edge of the heights of the Bois de Granges, in a basin of the river Scey.

The area of ​​2.61 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills between the valleys of Ognon and Doubs. The southern part of the area occupied by the basin of Granges, which is on average 300 m. It is drained by the Scey which receives the streams Ruisseau du Pont du Rond and Ruisseau de Mouillère here. Due to a relatively narrow valley he leaves the pelvis to the north, where it forms the western boundary of the municipality in parts.

To the north, the municipality's area extends into the vast forest area of the Bois de Granges. It is an average lying at 400 m plateau, which is divided by different erosion valleys. With 406 m find the highest mountains of Granges- la -Ville is achieved. The plateau forms the southwestern continuation of the Vosges and is mainly composed of red sandstone.

Neighboring communities of Granges- la -Ville are Mignavillers in the north, Granges- le -Bourg in the east, the south and Secenans Senargent - Mignafans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Granges was part of the same rule. Since 1150, the Lords of Granges acted as vassals of the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

In 1807 merged Granges- la -Ville with various other places the greater community Granges- le -Bourg. From this large village located in Granges- la -Ville separated in 1824 to form together with Mignafans and Mignavillers own community. Later in 1832 received first Mignafans and 1835 also Mignavillers their independence back. Since 2000 Granges- la -Ville is a member of the 33- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villers Exel.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Pierre was rebuilt in 1721. It has a rich interior, including nine altars from the 18th century. Next to the church are the 1725 classic-style rectory and a stone cross from the 14th century.

Population

With 203 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Granges- la -Ville is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 297 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Granges- la -Ville was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The water power of the streams was formerly used for the operation of several mills. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration Belfort -Montbéliard their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes, but is easily accessible from the main road D9, which runs from Héricourt to Villers Exel. Further road links exist with Athesans - ETROITEFONTAINE, Granges- le -Bourg, Mignafans and Secenans.
