The village forest with its 21 hamlets located in the Allgäu region.

History

The district Barnstein is already mentioned in 1059. Forest itself was designated in 1404, still as Wittislingen Ried ( clearing of the Witt or Wittislingen Rich ), the name was derived from the usual forest in the later place name to Newen churches in the forest. The local knights to Kemnat sold in 1493 its jurisdiction to the diocese of Augsburg. With the Imperial Diet of 1803 the city became part of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community. The 1397 first documented Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas was severely damaged in a fire caused by lightning 5 January 2012, making the top of the 58 meter high tower collapsed and fell into the adjoining cemetery.

Population Development

On the territory of the municipality were 1970 857, 1987, 946 and 2000 counted 994 inhabitants in the year. On 31 December 2006, the state-approved resort had 1,023 inhabitants, with its 21 hamlets.

Policy

Mayor Joseph is Ampßler ( General electoral group ). He was the successor of Max Hartmann ( General electoral group ) in 2002.

The municipal tax revenue amounted to the equivalent of € 339,000 in 1999, which amounted to the trade tax revenues ( net) converted € 24,000.

The coat of arms description reads: In a supported by a silver wave beams black label head, it actually has three golden balls in green between two rooted silver fir trees growing silver steeple.

It was in 1998 according to official statistics in the manufacturing sector and not in the trade and transport five social insurance contributions at the workplace.
