Cheeks is a municipality in the district of Göppingen in Baden- Württemberg. Cheeks part of the marginal zone of the metropolitan region of Stuttgart.

Geography

Geographical location

Cheeks situated on a hill above the Filstals on the edge of the virgin forest, about 5 km from the town of Göppingen.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Adelberg, to the east by Börtlingen and Rechberghausen, to the south by the county town of Göppingen, in the west on the town Uhingen and to the northwest by the City of Schorndorf in the Rems -Murr -Kreis.

Community structure

For cheeks heard the formerly independent municipality Oberwälden. The municipality consists of the villages cheeks and Oberwälden. In Wangen risen is the hamlet Niederwälden.

History

The place was first mentioned in 1274. This year, Friedrich von Staufeneck sold all his goods in cheeks and Oberwälden to the monastery Adelberg. Since 1327 Württemberg had already rights in cheek, but the biggest part of the town was still a member of the monastery.

1806 Degenfelder rule Rechberghausen and the monastery Oberamt Adelberg were lifted and the upper office Göppingen, predecessor of the district Göppingen affiliated.

Religions

It was not until 1511 Wangen was given its own parish, after having previously ecclesiastically belongs to Göppingen. During the Reformation, a Protestant parish was established in 1557. Since there are no Roman Catholic church at the place more, the Catholic faithful are cared for by the community Rechberghausen. In addition, there are in Wangen a small United Methodist congregation.

Incorporations

In 1935, the settlement Niederwälden von Holzhausen was umgemeindet to Wangen. In the course of municipal reform in Baden -Württemberg, until then independent municipality Oberwälden was incorporated on 1 July 1971.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms of cheeks is: In a split of gold and green sign above a recumbent deer black rod.

Green is in accordance to the local name for meadows, yellow symbolizes the fruitful field Mountian, the deer rod indicates the affiliation of the village to the house of Württemberg. The coat of arms was adopted in 1930, the yellow- green flag awarded by the Home Office on June 3, 1959.

Partnership

The community cheeks a close partnership with the French region de Routot (Normandy) to the municipalities Bouquetot, Brestot, Étréville, Éturqueraye, Hauville, La Haye Aubree, Le Landin, Rouge Montier and Routot belong. The rural communities have over 5,500 inhabitants. Since 1 May 1992, there is a partnership, and there was no year since this time without meeting, supported particularly by the clubs of the two municipalities.

Parish council

In Wangen municipal council there is no tradition of parties and factions. Mayor

Culture and sights

Music

To offer the musical community of the Musikverein cheeks founded in 1951, belongs eV, which makes music band in high school.
