Weng im Gesäuse (until 2003: Weng at Admont ) is a municipality with 595 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the judicial district or Liezen in Styria. From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the municipalities Hall, John Bach and Admont, the new community will be called " Admont ".

Geography

Weng im Gesäuse located in the eastern Admonterbecken and since 2002 in the existing National Gesäuse in Liezen in Styria. The highest mountain is the Great Book stone with 2,224 m.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Weng.

Neighboring municipalities are Admont, Hall, Hieflau, John Bach, Mooslandl, St. Gallen and Weissenbach an der Enns.

In the district Gstatterboden is the farthest point from the border of Austria ( 47 ° 35 '30 " N, 14 ° 38 ' 0" O47.59166666666714.633333333333 ).

History

Weng is mentioned in documents in 1135. The church of Weng was built in 1393. The pin Admont oversaw the church over many centuries, but could not prevent the temporary spread of Protestantism in the area. Only with Counter-Reformation and expulsion, the Catholic Church was able to prevail again. The abolition of the manorial system was carried out in 1848., The local church as an autonomous body was established in 1850. 1889 a fire destroyed the church in Weng, was rebuilt in 1890.

1923 bought Dr. Finze the Schröckhof and build a distillery there in 1928. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria. 1939, the operation of the distillery was set. End of 1944, the Metal Factory Hitzel from Marburg was moved to the Drau to the disused factory. 1945 Weng was occupied by the Americans, the Enns was the border to the Russian occupied territory. 1945 to 1955 she was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. The Metal Factory Hitzel later became part of the Palfinger Group.

On 26 October 2002, the National Park was Gesäuse.

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 June 1989. Coat Description: In blue between two silver bars, the top two times gesparrt, a red sprinkled with silver tufts of grass field, is a border silver marten.

  • Through the village and the municipality lead the Alps Tour or the Ennstalradweg R7.
  • Grabner stone: a hiking mountain near the Admonter house or Grabneralm; he is regarded as the most beautiful flower mountain in Styria.
  • Refuges, alpine meadows, mountain peaks: bases in the municipality include Grabneralm, Admonter house, Buchsteinhaus, Ennstaler hut Kroisenalm and Lahnalm. Tamischbachturm, Tieflimauer, Big Book Stone, Small Stone book and Grabner stone ideal for walking and climbing.
  • Mountain bike: On the Grabneralm or Kroisenalm / High discs challenging mountain bike trails lead.
